I'd spent about an hour at home trying to find something that would be "appropriate". I eventually just gave up, figuring that these were my friends and really, they knew me well enough not to stand on some sort of perceived social etiquette.
I went with an outfit that actually represented me and that I felt comfortable in. I most certainly wasn't looking to pick up. Supposedly that's always the way things go.
I remember walking into the dining area where everyone was gathered and the first thing that my soon to be boyfriend said to me was "I killed the prom queen?"
The rest of the conversation went something like this:
Me - "yep"
Him - "nice"
We spent the rest of the night talking, going through the cd's in my car, and ended up going out for nearly a year and half.
Lesson, people can always tell when your comfortable in your own skin. Be that first and you'll find everything else falls into place one way or another.
Disclaimer - the above was also true in our break up but that's a story for another time. I'm pretty sure he's married now...
